Collective purchasing offers savings to SMEs

19-06-2014

Business energy supplier Opus Energy has partnered with Brentwood Borough Council to provide an alternative way for the borough’s businesses to manage their energy costs. The scheme – known as an ‘Energy Basket’ – allows organisations to collectively pool their energy-buying needs, resulting in significant benefits for those involved. Managed by independent energy consultant Energycentric, it is an ideal opportunity for small businesses to access more complex energy purchasing options usually only available to larger businesses. Michelle Tyreman, Head of Corporate Sales at Opus Energy, says: “We are excited about this opportunity to extend our corporate solutions to the SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) market. We applaud the Council for their efforts to help businesses in Brentwood save money and in removing the challenges associated with more sophisticated energy purchasing, and are proud to be extending our partnership as the chosen energy supplier for the borough council.” As part of the scheme, businesses also benefit from additional services offered by Energycentric. These include a cloud-based system enabling them to monitor energy consumption and the opportunity to liaise with an energy specialist on their bills. Councillor John Kerslake, chair of the Performance and Resources Committee and spokesperson for finance and procurement at Brentwood Borough Council, added: “Businesses are always looking for ways to manage costs and overheads better, so this scheme is a great alternative to the conventional way of buying energy and actively supports the army of SMEs that are vital to our borough.” Businesses interested in finding out more, or joining the scheme, should contact Paul Lomas at Energycentric on 01708 765555 or email at paul.lomas@energycentric.co.uk.
