SST Trogamid Liquid Level Sensors Now Approved for Food Contact

18-03-2014

The type of housing material offered at SST depends entirely on the type of environment the liquid level sensors will be used in. Our technical team ensure to recommend the best housing materials that will be most compatible with the type of fluid the sensors will be exposed to. The housing materials we offer at SST vary from Polysulphone for the less corrosive and damaging fluid types such as water, bleach, butane; Trogamid for more hostile liquid types such as acetone, diesel fuel and heating oil; and Brass and Stainless steel for more industrial type applications where a higher temparature range is vital in the customers specification. Trogamid being one of our more robust plastics, has been proven it's worth in the automotive, communications and electrical engineering industries, and in medical technology for approximately 40 years. The Trogamid plastic consists of basic products and compounds that are distinguished by permanent transparency and high chemical resistance. The Environment, Health, Safety and Quality Department provides general information on the toxicological properties of Trogamid compounds and all evaluations dealing with the compound's contact with foodstuffs. Uniform regulations for plastics that come into contact with foodstuffs exist at the European level. The consolidated European Directive 2002/72/EC states that the following grades; Trogamid CX7323, Trogamid CX9704 and Trogamid CX9710 have now been approved for direct food contact in the European Union because of they are based on monomers that are listed favourably in this directive. What does this mean for SST? The Trogamid grade we use on our sensors is CX7323 which means we adhere to the European Directive 2002/72/EC Guidelines and we can now promote and offer our Trogamid Fluid Level Sensors in the food industry.
